It’s bittersweet for me this year as we bid farewell to the summer holidays. There is nothing not to love about the long lazy sundrenched days and the laissez faire attitude that comes with them, but at the same time, a little chill in the air gives us that exciting wake up call. We look forward to unwinding in the evenings wrapped in a cashmere blanket and soft pants. We can’t wait to buy a new pair of jeans, and a new blouse in the colour of the season. It’s time to get back in shape, and write some resolutions, make some promises for the remaining months of the year- September after all is a mini “new year” – which brings the opportunity for fresh starts. Living in Canada however, forecasts continue to be crazy and unpredictable- so for all we know an Indian summer could be ahead of us- with warm temps during the day right through September, so how are we supposed to dress? Don’t put away your sun dresses, bright coloured pants, tank tops or sandals yet- just wear them with fall pieces to create a transitional, seasonally appropriate look.
Wear your summer dress with a blazer and closed toe shoes to work, or for an evening out, throw on a long cardy with little booties.
Wear your favourite cropped jeans with a long sleeve blouse and closed toe mules.
Bright coloured pants or a skirt can still be worn in this transition timeframe, wear them with a dark top – a black blouse vs. a white blouse can change the whole look of the outfit.
Shorts even work during transition, wear them with opaque tights and booties, and a long sleeve blouse.
Wear your open toe sandals with long pants and a sweater.
Layer and accessorize, this is the best time of year to use layering pieces to transition your outfit appropriately. Blanket scarves; vests in fur and wool, long loose sweaters and hats are some faves that we will be carrying and featuring at STYLEARTIST. Throw on a long wool vest over your white tank and cropped jeans, add a fedora and slip on a pair of closed toe mules for an effortlessly chic look.
