A T-shirt (or t shirt, or tee) is a style of unisex fabric shirt named after the T shape of its body and sleeves. It normally has short sleeves and a round neckline, known as a crew neck, which lacks a collar. T-shirts are generally made of a light, inexpensive fabric and are easy to clean. (Thanks Wikipedia!)
The most underestimated item of clothing in your wardrobe, the tee is our favourite staple piece as a base to any effortlessly stylish outfit. The versatility of a tee is never-ending, it works into just about any of your day to night activities. While some of us believe that tees should be cheap and cheerful, I would argue the opposite for a basic white tee. Think about the use you can get from it, no other piece in your wardrobe works this hard for you :)
Sleep in it- who doesn’t love to sleep in oversize large white tees? The softer the better, sometimes even borrowing one from our man
Work out in it- Whether you’re going for a brisk walk, a run, cycling, yoga or a game of tennis. Yup, white tee works for all of the above.
Lazy Day at home- White tee with a pair of joggers and flip flops is my favourite lazy day ensemble. Even in the cooler months, I throw on a cashmere sweater or blanket scarf to keep out the chill.
Running errands- White tee with my favourite Mother jeans and sneaks- I’m on a mission. Groceries, dry-cleaning, kid drop off, pick up, blah, blah. Errands can be a drag, so be comfortably stylish when you’re checking off your list.
Wear to work- Wear your fave white tee under any blazer with dress pants or a skirt, voila! You mean business. Add a statement necklace for an even more polished look.
Night Out- Yup, your tee deserves to come out to date nite. I would go for a V or scoop neckline for the evening. Worn with a pencil skirt and heels gives off the “I just threw this on but I still look amazing” vibe.
Pay attention to the fit of your tee, yes there is an art to matching your tee to your body shape- some tips below:
A V-Neckline helps to create a slimming effect. This style can minimize a larger bust and enhance a smaller one. Because this style helps to create the illusion of curves, it’ll help create a more extended and leaner silhouette and elongate your neck. This style is universally flattering for any figure.
A Crew Neckline can work for any figure, but be cautious if you have a larger bust because it tends to make you look more top heavy. Crew necklines tend to draw the eye outward towards your shoulders, so you appear more balanced and in proportion which is great for balancing out a wider bottom.
A Scoop Neckline is similar to a V-neckline, it also helps to create curves. If you’re more top heavy or are wider at the bottom, this is a good choice for you. This style also helps to create the illusion of a larger bust for my ladies with a smaller chest.
But let’s not stop with the white tee- there are so many cool fashion trends going on with tees, we're having tonnes of fun selecting our favourites.
Quote tees have been having a pretty long moment on the fashion scene. Everything from political stances to personal beliefs, to simple humour worn on your tee are all the rage.
Printed Tees- We are in love with camo and stars. You can find them all over our site!
Sheer and distressed fabrics also give a basic tee a little more edge!
Nautical stripes simply have become a staple. A striped tee in navy or black and white just makes us happy- is it because we picture ourselves on a yacht sailing along the Amalfi Coast?
Whatever your summer plans are- make sure your tees go with you!
Till the next time, Catherine
